Outstanding. Great place to relax and unwind
Outstanding. Beautiful location. Lovely room, great pool and all wrapped in friendly, welcoming service. Nothing was to much trouble. Great also for walking. Did an hours circular walk through the tea plantation. Hotel organised a really interesting visit to Lipton’s seat and the local tea factory (walked half way from the top as well). Delicious evening meals. Wish we could have stayed longer. Great value. Highly recommend.

Relaxing and peaceful
We had a delightful 3 night stay in Thotalagala, hiking on the Pekoe Trail across the tea plantation and spending chill end of days in the boutique hotel. The view overlooking the South of the Island is stunning. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, rooms are well equipped in a traditional old English heritage style. Hôtel is spacious, well decorated. This is not to mention the kitchen and the chef. One of our best meal in SriLanka with fresh and delicious ingredients. High tea and tea tasting is served with a view. Then Janaka tought us everything about tea flavors. Unique experience. Janaka was extremely helpful and caring, anticipating everything we needed and more. Thanks to Janaka and the whole team, we enjoyed a very relaxing moment.

This really is the perfect boutique hotel – exquisite surroundings (inside and out), perfect service and attention to detail from each and every member of staff, truly exceptional food from chef - freshly baked croissants made from scratch in house, the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had, sensational rich mutton curry, excellent G&Ts, to name just a few of the incredible delights we were served.
Then there were the delightful garden and tea plantation nature walks with Thotalagala’s fantastically knowledgeable and friendly naturalist who introduced us to the fascinating biodiversity of the surrounding forested hills, and also talked us through a tea tasting.
Our large and extremely comfortable suite (Rev Walter Senior) was perfect for us and our teenage daughter who had her own separate sleeping space in the living room area. As the weather was cooler at night up in the hills we didn’t need air conditioning which made the experience even more comfortable and, along with the luxurious big four poster bed, contributed to the best 3 nights sleep we all had in our 20 day tour of Sri Lanka.
This is a truly, truly exceptional and wonderful hotel and we’ll most definitely be back!

Amazing
This was such an outstanding and memorable experience from beginning to end. My husband and I came here on our honeymoon and were blown away by the service, location and amenities. The attention to detail and care put into every aspect of every experience was phenomenal. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to experience the best Sri Lanka has to offer!

Heavenly experience
What a hotel! The house is beautiful, the service we received was extraordinary from all the team especially our butler Janaka. The table set up for our breakfast looking out over the tea country was very special. Unfortunately the clouds and rain came in so our hike of the Pecoe trail was wet and viewless but still charming amongst the tea pickers despite the leeches. The hot water bottles and lit fire with cocktails that night were appreciated. Dinner, , tea tasting and high tea all very good. We were rewarded by the trip up to Lipton seat early the next morning with amazing views all arranged by the hotel. An amazing experience and would highly recommend
