A bucket list must...... Superb!!!

We came for the weekend and the whole trip was just amazing.
We took a car rental from Trondheim which took just shy of 2 hours but a lovely drive.
The resort of Are is small and easy to navigate, parking is available and the rise to the Igloo was lovely, the lift was closed so went came by snow mobile and from the minute we arrived we were so excited. The hosts Hakan and Katarina and Helmar are so friendly and informative, they were great hosts. Our igloo was great, as you could imagine, cold but very warm!! The area has a teepee with fire and 2 toilets that are clean and ok. The hot tubs and warm room are hot and warming just what you need before bed!
The dinner and breakfast was tasty and locally produced. Plenty to eat and drink, the warmth of the sleeping bag and igloo was great and the morning views and feeling was just out of this world.
I would highly recommend this trip of a lifetime, maybe not for the faint hearted but a great opportunity to see nature and feel the energy that a snowy and icy destination can offer.
You must do it!!!!

Second night visit

Did a great review yesterday and returned tonight. Food quality remains the same. Asked for bottle of wine at 110 lira. Our waiter brought different wine and said it was better and charged 180. Felt we were taken advantage of which spoiled a great evening.

Very special indeed - warmly recommended

Beyond wonderful! This was such an amazing experience. The polar-style sleeping bags (with sheet liners) really are fantastic. Both of us stayed toasty warm all night.
My husband couldn't be persuaded to try the open-air hot tub before bed, but I was very glad I had a go - it really was a lovely thing to do by starlight (the tiny heated changing room is essential - you might have to queue....but going later than the other guests, I had both the tub and the heated hut to myself).
The food was excellent too - a delicious simple 3 course meal for dinner, and a terrific breakfast including freshly cooked swedish flatbread. Most guests stay just one night, but we enjoyed having a 2nd night - and our meal on the 2nd evening was a hearty and very tasty goulash.
Our host - Hakan - was so welcoming and attentive. He gave us lots of extra help, including with transport - particularly on our 2nd night, when we had booked a late Snowshoe trek to see the Northern Lights which didn't finish till 11.40pm!
There is a teepee with a wood burner as a lounge area right next to the igloos - nice to sit and rest there awhile. We also made good use of the facilities in the nearby cafe and lounge at the top of the VM8 ski lift - just a few minutes walk away.
The views are beautiful, particularly at dawn, at dusk and after dark. When all the skiers have gone home, it feels like a real privilege to be up on the mountainside, looking at the twinkling lights below.

A must!

I went here with my s.o in the end of march and we had a great stay. We were warmly welcomed by Håkan & Katarina (and little Helmer ofcourse). We had an aweome 3-course dinner at the evening and some homemade "tunnbröd" in the morning. They let us borrow warmer shoes and we got some super-warm sleeping bags for the night.

Underbar upplevelse!

From beginning to end a perfect experience. It was easy to park at VM8:ans valley station and Håkan met up with us at the lift. From there we went just before closing time up to the igloo village, where we were treated to hot lingonberry juice and a review of life in an igloo :). The "village" consists of only 8 Igloos, of which you can live in 6 of them, so it was small, cozy and welcoming. It is run by a couple who live there and have thought of everything - the comfort was great under the circumstances.
We went on a small walk with Håkan where he pointed out the hills in the countryside, it was truly beautiful nature. Then it was free time for an hour, followed by dinner. We chose the option with goulash soup and it was good as well as warming!
Access to the spa bath was the best bit: there is a small warming hut where you could change just before you jumped in so you did not have to freeze. Then when you came out of the hot bath there was no problem to go back to the Igloo as it did not seem cold anymore :).
There were warm sleeping bags and one sleeps on a mattress on the snow. And then wake up to freshly baked bread and pancakes.
All in all, the ultimate experience for anyone looking to do something different without having it too hard! You will not freeze, I promise! And they even have free wifi.
Many thanks to Håkan and Katarina!
