Simple base for visiting Bath, Jane Austin's city

Basic B&B in the city in the immediate vicinity of Bath's main attractions. Simple breakfast.
Private parking possible.
At the back there is a spacious public car park with public charging stations for electric vehicles.

Overpriced

Very old and run down room (2nd floor), bathroom and premises. All a bit smelly, ‚place needs to be aired’. The breakfast was loveless. Tasteless scrambled eggs…
There should be a common room and a common outside area for the guests - especially when you consider prices. Overpriced accommodation!

Enjoyable Stay

After overcoming our surprise that no Wi-Fi was available, we enjoyed out stay. Room was adequate, facilities were dated but functional and breakfast was good. Margarita was knowledgeable and helpful. Location was convenient to the Botanic Gardens, the Royal Crescent and just a short walk downtown.

Average B&B

Average B&B. Clean and comfortable beds but the facilities need updating. Being in a front room however we did have a lovely view. Breakfast was uninspiring and limited which was surprising as we had stayed in other B&Bs on the trip where they prided themselves on great food. Even some yogurt would have been welcomed. However Elgin Villa is close to the attractions of the city centre.

Not recommended, despite the location and good bed

The whole thing could use some paint, but that in itself is not a problem. The room was clean and spacious enough and the bed slept wonderfully. Very noisy as we could clearly hear the upstairs neighbors.
The location of the B&B was excellent, it was nice that there was private parking (paid). We were also allowed to stay on the day of departure and that was kind.
There was no WiFi in the B&B, I was not aware of that. Internet reception is not very good throughout Bath because it is located in a valley. That doesn't have to be a problem, but it is useful to know.
Even though I have few requirements, I found the breakfast to be substandard. Scrambled eggs were tasty, but the toast was a bit tough. Croissants and brioche rolls came from the supermarket and not from the bakery. Furthermore, no choice of other eggs or fresh rolls. The fruit consisted of only some grapes.
There was an incident with the unfriendly hostess; she clearly has a problem. We choose a B&B because we are interested in other people and cultures. I heard an accent from the hostess and asked politely where she was from. That went completely wrong; she felt questioned and reacted sullen and angry. Another guest touched her arm to which she said, "Don't touch me!" snapped. This made us all feel very uncomfortable in the breakfast room.
Because it made me feel bad, the host let me know that it was not my intention to make his wife feel uncomfortable. The lady came rushing out of the kitchen and still raged at me; whether I cared who 'served' me. She really clearly had issues. I apologized and the gentleman tried to calm things down, but I was really upset by all this. Fortunately this happened on check-out day because I definitely did not want to stay here.
I would not recommend this B&B and not at all what I am used to.
