Beautiful location, great inn

Situated in a beautiful location, miles from the crowds, this beautifully kept inn makes for a refreshing break. Very clean throughout, and with the most welcoming and friendly staff, if you bring your dog prepare for him or her to be made a fuss of. Miles of both low-level and fell walks from the door. The room we stayed in, room 5, was a little small but hosted a comfortable king-size bed. The bathroom was a decent size with a modern and efficient shower over the bath tub. They serve a wide selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Food is available at the bar and is prepared by very accomplished, imaginative and accommodating chefs. Excellent breakfasts are served in the bright conservatory. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay, and Mistletoe says thank you for all the treats!

Great walkers pub with excellent, speedily served food

The Boot Inn is a favourite watering-hole for us regular visitors to the lovely wooded, Eskdale valley, the penultimate pub before heading towards Hardknott Pass and a good starting point for rambling up Scafell. The garden gives a view towards Dalegarth, the terminus of the 7-mile express miniture railway to the coast at Ravenglass. This pub does not have TVs and (unfortunately in this weather) no fridges. HOWEVER, it serves beautifully cooked meals in remarkably quick time. Barmen and the 4 waitresses rush around and nobody, not even large groups needs to wait very long. The breakfast is a marvel of trad English cooking all made with local ingredients. There's a good range of beers and a great garden to eat in. The rooms are basic but bed was comfortable. It attracts walkers and other energy-consuming sportsmen. Hence the portions. It's delightful in warm weather sitting out till the sun goes and its quiet location is a rural idyll. The River Esk is a short walk away and has waterfalls and deep transparent pools jumped in by intrepid adrenalin junkies. Management know their business and their clients and the quite pricey tag on this no frills pub is a testimony to it. This was my first stay here but I have enjoyed the pub and garden for nigh on 30 years. Congrats to all the cheerful staff.

Superb stop off for lunch

Stopped off for lunch after visiting Eskdale Mill, and very glad we stopped off. Very hot day, but everyone was cool inside the pub; the landlord was really friendly, and the food we ordered was absolutely stunning. Absolutely can’t fault it! Great free WiFi too, as the hamlet of Boot does not have a great phone signal.

Super local pub with very friendly staff and delicious food

What a fabulous warm hospitable pub , with fabulous food. Everything you hope for and more. 4 of us enjoyed an excellent meal, great beer and wine, and a lovely ambiance on a very wet and cold evening in Boot. Loved it! We plan to return next year. Thank you.

Hidden gem

What a hidden gem!
Me and my family stayed here for a few nights in January there were 16 of us, kids and lots of dogs!
The staff made such an effort to accommodate us, despite how chaotic we are.
The food was constantly fantastic! Proper hearty pub grub. They also have great options for veggies and vegans.
The rooms were lovely, nice and warm even in -5° icy January weather!
The area itself is absolutely stunning. There’s a lovely walk with some beautiful views and a stream nearby.
Extra credit to the front of house staff who made such an effort. They were so friendly, got to know us and went above and beyond to make us feel at home.
Thank you!!

Wow, thank you so much for such an amazing review! We're so happy to hear that your family and all the dogs had a great stay with us, despite the chaos, we love accommodating big groups like yours! It’s wonderful that you enjoyed the hearty pub grub, and we're glad our veggie and vegan options hit the spot too.
We’re also pleased the rooms kept you warm and cozy during those icy January days! It sounds like you really took advantage of the beautiful area, which is always a bonus.
A special thank you for mentioning our front-of-house team. They really do go above and beyond to make everyone feel at home, and I know they’ll be thrilled to read your kind words.
It was a pleasure having you all stay with us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back next time, hopefully with a few more dogs too!
