Blocked from lochrin bar. Private event setup in space on top floor. Embarrassing. Marriott gold member. No access to facilities.

Our room was clean. Staff seemed uninterested in guests, however we were served by 2 lovely staff members on the rooftop terrace on Sunday night. Friendly and efficient.

Good location and excellent staff, but some important room issues
We stayed at the Moxy Hotel for the final weekend of the Edinburgh Tattoo, with the Edinburgh Fringe also taking place at the same time. Understandably, the hotel was extremely busy, but overall there were some definite positives to our stay.
The reception and bar staff were fantastic. They were attentive, friendly and provided excellent customer service throughout our visit. The communal areas and shared amenities were also very clean, tidy and functional, and provided everything we needed during our stay.
We didn’t have breakfast during this visit. From previous experience, I’ve found the Moxy buffet can sometimes suffer from replenishment issues, with some of the main items running out fairly quickly, so we chose not to have it this time.
The room was generally clean and comfortable, with a couple of significant exceptions.
The bathroom itself was otherwise well kept, but the sliding bathroom door really needed to be cleaned more thoroughly between guests. There were quite a lot of marks on the door, some of which could potentially have been bodily fluids. I think this is something that should be specifically included in the cleaning regime, particularly on a surface that guests are regularly touching.
The biggest issue, however, was the shower pressure. It was extremely low to the point where it was difficult to have what I would consider a proper shower. This wasn’t simply a case of the pressure being slightly disappointing; it genuinely affected our ability to shower properly and should be looked at.
The rest of the room was absolutely fine. The air conditioning worked well, and it was nice to have a window that could be opened. The pillows and duvet were also excellent.
Unfortunately, the other major issue was the mattress. We stayed in room 538, which had a large king-size bed, but the mattress was noticeably sunken in the middle. Both myself and my partner repeatedly rolled towards the centre during the night, which resulted in a very poor night’s sleep.
For me, the shower and mattress are two of the most important things in a hotel you’re ultimately there to be able to wash and sleep comfortably. I genuinely think this mattress needs to be replaced. Hotels should perhaps have someone periodically inspect and test mattresses, as this kind of deterioration isn’t necessarily obvious from simply looking at the bed. If this mattress were in my own home, I would have replaced it by now.
We would have asked to change rooms to see if another mattress was better, but reception advised us that, because it was the final night of the Tattoo and the Fringe was also taking place, the hotel was at full occupancy.
Despite these issues, we still found the Moxy to be a good, central base for exploring Edinburgh. It was around a 20-minute walk to Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle, which made it a convenient location for our visit.
Overall, the staff and communal areas were excellent, and the hotel has a lot going for it. However, the shower pressure and particularly the mattress in room 538 need attention. Addressing those issues would make a significant difference to the overall guest experience.

Listed amenities missing, and housekeeping skipped a day
We stayed three nights in the Moxy Extra Sleeper room, booked for three people. The location is good and the common areas are pleasant, but several things didn't match the listing and the service slipped.
The listing includes a wardrobe or closet. There was none — no hanging rail of any kind. What we had were two narrow pegboard grids with hooks, not even positioned next to each other. For three people with luggage in a 21 m² room, there was nowhere to hang or store clothes. A socket near the bed is also listed as a facility; one of the two didn't work. One of the two mirror lights in the bathroom was out as well.
The listing describes both a sofa and a sofa bed. In practice, the third sleeping space is a single armchair-width fold-out, not a sofa. If you're booking for three on the strength of that description, that's what you're getting, and the room is very tight once it's open.
Housekeeping was the worst of it. On day two the room wasn't serviced at all — nobody came during the morning while we were out, and when housekeeping arrived around 4pm we were getting ready to go out and asked if they could come back a little later. Nobody returned, so we had unmade beds and no fresh towels for the night. On day three the beds were made, but the sheets and pillowcases hadn't been ironed.
I know Moxy is a pared-back brand and I wasn't expecting a minibar. But amenities that are explicitly listed should exist, and a serviced room with fresh towels isn't an extra.

In keeping with Moxy’s streamlined design, they provide open storage with hooks rather than a traditional wardrobe or hanging rail, while the additional sleeping space is a single fold-out sleeper chair. These features are reflected on our official brand website, so I am concerned that the listing you viewed may not have described the room accurately. We will review how the room is presented across different booking channels to ensure expectations are clear.
The non-working socket and bathroom mirror light should have been identified and corrected, and I apologise for these maintenance shortcomings.
Our stayover rooms are refreshed daily, generally during the afternoon once priority departure rooms have been completed. While the team did attend your room on the second day, I appreciate that the timing was inconvenient and, having agreed to return later, they should either have done so or helped arrange fresh towels.
