Beautiful spot in the varied landscape

Fantastic just! The location, the food, the kaners, the friendliness and the surrounding buildings and facilities. Very nice on the water

Extremely disappointing

Just experienced an extremely disappointing lunch at The Priory in Wareham. As local residents who dine out frequently we were left feeling as if we simply didn't matter. Food was excellent (the chef knows what he's doing) but service in the restaurant and at Reception was appalling. At Reception I was told twice to go speak to the Restaurant team directly myself (once to get 'permission' to eat on the terrace which on the booking call we were assured wasn't an issue, and twice to go request the bill myself). The restaurant and manager had different versions as to why we couldn't eat on the terrace - from 'you're not hotel residents' to 'wasps' to 'weather', despite two other tables being served outside. Getting our drinks took time and our order (diet coke) was forgotten twice. Plates and drinks took time to clear from the table after we stacked them ourselves to make room. Sadly not the special experience we anticipated. Somewhat reluctant to start using the restaurant more come the off season which we had planned.

Slightly disappointed

Lovely location overlooking the river
We stayed in the boat house kingfisher not suitable for the elderly with spiral staircase access with many steps and beams in the room and bathroom. Make sure you wash early as the hot water runs out quickly if all boathouse rooms are occupied.
Very good breakfast but with a 4 night stay found the dinner menu limited.
The reception lady (short dark hair mentioned in other reviews)was very unhelpful when asked for an afternoon tea stating only one scone available ??

poor service

We visited to celebrate my partner's birthday, but unfortunately the service completely ruined what should have been a special occasion.
From the moment we were seated, we felt ignored. We were never offered water, never asked if everything was okay with our meal, and were never offered any more tea. Meanwhile, every other table around us seemed to receive attentive service.
To make matters worse, we had to leave our table and find a member of staff just to pay our bill, which was incredibly frustrating.
What was most disappointing was that as soon as we asked to see a drinks menu, the staff suddenly couldn't do enough for us. It gave us the impression that we only received attention when there was an opportunity for us to spend more money, rather than because we were valued customers.
The food itself was enjoyable, but the lack of customer service overshadowed the entire experience. We spent money expecting a reasonable standard of service, but left feeling ignored and disappointed. Sadly, this isn't the birthday experience we had hoped for.

Lovely stay

Lovely stay. Idyllic setting and glorious weather. We stayed in the Boathouse (Heron) and though slightly expensive it was wonderful to have access to the riverside via our own terrace. Jacuzzi bath fabulous and bed although large and nicely dressed with quality linens, was too hard for us sadly and affected our sleep. Room could do with a room safe (v surprised not to have one in a 4 star hotel). Garden restaurant wonderful, beautifully designed and decorated and breakfast and lunch both good with fantastic views of the garden and river beyond. Gluten free afternoon tea disappointing though, as cakes and scones very dry and left almost all uneaten as a consequence. However, on balance a good
stay in a beautiful hotel, in a glorious setting with friendly and attentive staff. We will be back but may ask for an additional duvet to sleep on for extra padding!
