Need a break, it’s here

The place was marginally run down
The staff more than made up for the short comings.
Friendly, happy and willing to go beyond.
Comfortably out of Port Vila, buses made it easy to move around (V150 per person to basically anywhere).
Meals are well above average , even though the menu was limited, pricing was good value.
Safe and relaxing
Highly recommended for a relaxing break.

Warning: The property was closed when we arrived for our booking in April 2025

We booked six nights here April 14-20 four months ago on a hotel booking site. It is listed on a number of hotel booking multiple sites as well as Trip Advisor. My card was charged in full mid March. When we arrived by cab from Port Vila Airport, the gate was locked. Two women at the property advised that it has been closed for more than six months and renovations have been held up. They were surprised that the property was still listed when I showed them the confirmation I had received. They said they would contact the person responsible for those listings to take them down, but yet none of them have been removed or changed to indicate the property is not functioning for now. The booking company we used did refund us within 30 days, but we had to scramble to find other accomodation in Port Vila during Easter week. That was a huge inconvenience that ate up a day and a half of our holiday time in Vanuatu. Buyer beware if you are considering this property.

Beautiful Views in the Heart of the City

The setting on the banks of the lagoon is beautiful ... the rooms had amazing views and were well-resourced and serviced. The breakfast was well cooked and varied ... couldn't fault it. The staff were really helpful and helped us to book taxis and catch buses. When I return next to Port Vila, this will be my preferred choice of accommodation.

Quiet and Friendly Place

We had a lovely time at Sunset Bungalows, everybody was so friendly and welcoming, a special shout out to Maria, who worked every day from cooking to reception from early in the morning to late at night, the cleaning lady and the night security man were also so lovely, he waited with us at 4.30am for our transport to arive to the airport.
The rooms are nice, bed comfy and a beautiful outlook when you open the doors to the lagoon, with the water lapping up the front, the whole resort is looking a little tired, but after being hit with over 2 years of COVID and 2 cyclones this resort is still trying to recover, the only downside for us was the lack of choice in food, but was not really an issue we just got a bus into town and ate in there.
The town is also still recovering a lot of places are still closed or have shut completely but all in all if you want a nice quiet place with great service and beatuiful people with clean comfortable rooms then you will not be disappointed with Sunset Bungalows.

They Ripped Us Off

All was well at the resort until the final morning when we had to get to the airport. We paid them ahead of time for transport to the airport. The morning they were supposed to drive us there, we waited and waited in the rain in the wee hours of the morning for almost an hour and no transport showed up. Finally we asked the "security guard" to call someone to find out what was going on. Come to find out, their van had broken down so they were unable to get there. Ummm..why didnt anyone call to tell us? We finally managed to get a bus to the airport ( paid our of our own pocket) and made it to our flight just in time.
Now. We have attempted to get our money back from this place to no avail. We have sent more than one email explaining that we have given you money for transport that didnt show up, then we had to pay for a bus on top of it! Nothing from them and it has been three months since we got back. How disappointing. GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!
