Happy Mondays
Friday vs Sunday
Have you always assumed that it’s cheaper to fly midweek, on Tuesday or Wednesday? It isn’t. Surprisingly, our research shows that Friday is actually the cheapest day to fly. The most expensive day to fly from Ireland is a Sunday, with a stonking 27% difference in price between the two. So you might want to book an extra day off work and get away early at the start of your next holiday.
Juggle your airports
Convenience is one thing. But don’t assume that using your nearest airport will be the cheapest way to travel. For example, a family of four travelling to Lanzarote from July 13-20 can fly for €1,316 if travelling from Shannon Airport, but flights on the same dates from Dublin are €1,152. The saving of €164 would certainly cover the cost of your ice creams on the beach.
We’re not saying that Dublin is always the cheapest option, by the way. It’s always worth beginning your search on Skyscanner by entering “Ireland” in the “From” box, rather than a particular airport: that way flight prices from all Irish airports are listed, and you’ll get a much clearer idea of your options.
Watch and wait
If you’re flexible about your dates of travel, our flight search function can be helpful too. Rather than entering specific dates you can search prices across a whole month. Or click the “cheapest month” button to find out when prices are lowest over the next 12 months.
It’s worth setting up a Price Alert too – you’ll be alerted via email every time your flight increases or decreases in price.
Escape the winter gloom
And if you’re open to suggestions, you can simply select “Everywhere” in the flight search box, choose any month, and see what bargains you can find. You never know, it might just open your eyes to a fabulous destination you’d never have considered.
