Burgas Aiport is in the southeast of Burgas, close to Sarafovo. It serves both the city of Burgas as well as the south coast seaside destinations in Bulgaria, including Sunny Beach. Lake Atanasovsko is another major attraction here, which lies between the airport and the city. Burgas is the second biggest airport in Bulgaria.

Petrol stations close to Burgas Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
The closest petrol station is within easy reach of the airport if you’re coming to or from the city. Take the first exit at the roundabout leaving the airport onto Route 9 and continue onto the E87. At the next roundabout you come to, take the first exit again and stay left on Route 9. Keep on Route 9 until you come to the junction where you’ll see the OMV gas station.
Driving around Burgas Airport
The airport is set back to the north of the city, outside of the main hustle and bustle. Route 9/E87 make it easy to reach both Burgas and Sunny Beach, which is further north than Burgas. The A1 also runs in land, which you’ll need to take if you want to reach some of Bulgaria’s snowfields and inner towns.
Popular destinations to drive to from Burgas Airport
Burgas is a Bulgarian city perched on the edge of the Black Sea. It’s a tidy port city which makes for an easy stop over between major attractions on Bulgaria’s south coast.
It takes less than 15 minutes to reach the city by car. Take the E87 south when you leave the airport, and continue onto the second exit at the roundabout. Take a slight right, and continue into the city centre. There are a few on street-parking zones in Burgas, as well as secure car parks.
This is the Black Sea’s very own manmade beach side resort, which proves popular with Europeans every year. The affordable prices, bars, restaurants and clubs make it an attractive holiday destination for a lot of younger crowds. Nesebâr is another popular resort here, slightly south of the main strip, but it’s quieter than Sunny Beach.
It’s just half an hour away from the airport, and there’s a petrol station on route. Take the last exit on the roundabout to get onto the E87, and continue north until you see the signs for Nesebâr and Sunny Beach. There are on street parking options here but it can be very difficult to find a spot, so try to see if your hotel has a car park before booking.
Sozopol is another holiday resort on Bulgaria’s south coast. There are some beautiful ruins here, as well as a great beach and affordable hotels, making it another popular seaside resort. Ravadinovo Castle is a Sozopol must-do!
To reach Sozopol, take the first exit when leaving the airport and follow Route 9 down past Burgas, keeping left where possible. Merge onto the 99 to get to Sozopol. Parking here is much more relaxed, but again it can be difficult to find spot in peak season.
