A great little hotel close to many landmarks and surrounded by places to eat and have a drink. We'd definitely stay there again.

Tiniest hotel room imaginable

The rooms at the Hotel Malar are the smallest I have ever seen! You will be shocked once you tap the key card and open the door to your room. There's barely enough room to put a suitcase on the floor. If you're slightly larger than average size, you probably won't even fit into the shower. I saw a tall man getting ready to check into the Hotel Malar, and I wanted so badly to advise him to find a better hotel!
No elevators, either. You will carry your suitcase up a narrow, winding staircase. I think there are only two rooms on the ground floor. Your room will likely be on the third or fourth floor.
There is a nice, new AC unit that keeps the room comfortable. That's the only good thing I can say about this place.

Black mold in shower, and then hotel claims we didn't tell them about it

Upon arrival at the Hotel Malar for our four-night stay, we noticed a significant amount of black mold in the shower. We notified Expedia as well as the man at the front desk. The next day, we told a different man at the front desk, who promised to remedy the situation. A day later, the mold was still in the shower. We notified the man at the front desk again, who said they would have to regrout the shower that day. The problem never was fixed.
Upon our return to the U.S., we notified Expedia agent Richard Kiel, who called the Hotel Malar. His response to us:
"Hi, thank you for patiently waiting. I was able to speak with the property regarding your concern. They advised that, according to their records, no issues or concerns were reported to the front desk during your stay. As a result, they are not willing to provide any compensation or refund for this case.
"I sincerely apologize, but my ability to challenge this decision is limited, as the final determination regarding compensation rests with the property."
So, in addition to running a dirty hotel, the staff of the Hotel Malar are liars as well!

I was shocked when I had to walk off a very narrow circular stairwell of the fourth floor and I'm opening the door and found a very small room in a shower then I could barely fit into. Our safe was locked and I requested them to unlock the safe which they never did this place they call a hotel. Now while I will give them credit because the bill is over 200 years old that didn't make up for the fact that we were waking we were awakened every morning with construction just outside the building. When we finally checked in. It's within reasonable walking distance of the Eiffel Tower and some other minor sites. But unfortunately but unfortunately I cannot give them a good rating in addition the pillows are no thicker than toilet paper and the blankets barely cover the width of the bed which is reasonably small in itself.

Always read the reviews first!

The location is ideal if you want to stay near the Eiffel Tower and Pont de l'Alma (train station). However, I was very disappointed. You get what you pay for, and always read the reviews! Foolishly, I did not read any. The hotel is quite run down. No lift, and the stairs seem quite dangerous (especially for this 70 year old). It really is more of a hostel than a hotel. The staff was pleasant, but I took extra precautions as a woman traveling alone as far as safety in the hotel. I was just there to sleep and shower, and for that it almost worked. No shampoo, only hand soap in the shower.
