No place for foreign travelers

I really can't say anything about the hotel room or facilities because they did not let us even go in. Seeing good reviews on this and other website, I booked the hotel for a friend of mine. I went along with her to the hotel to check in. Although we had a confirmed online reservation, the receptionist said they don't allow foreigners. I initially thought there was a communication issue and tried to talk to him in Tamil saying that she has a confirmed booking and she would like to check in. She had a valid passport and valid tourist visa for India and also an onward flight booking and we were willing to show all the documents. He said that a few days ago some foreigner had committed some crime in some nearby hotel and so they don't allow any foreigner in the hotel. They did not even ask our nationality and refused to tell the nationality of the person involved in the other incident. We were afraid we were going to be charged as we had a confirmed booking and the website had taken our card details. We canceled online, but the hotel staff even refused to explain the refund process in case we get charged. We had to end up roaming around the street until we got accommodation in a different ladies hostel. This is the most xenophobic, racist, and bigoted person I have seen in a hotel reception.

NO WIFI

This is a mixed review, firstly there is definitely NO WIFI here !!!!! You need to buy Indian sim and set up a hotspot if you want to use laptop, which gave us a major problem with checking in to our next flights as there was a 3day public holiday and could not buy sim. There are 2 people working the reception one is a really grumpy unfriendly older man who just wants to watch tv the other a really helpful younger guy that tries his best to help, room was clean, bed was comfy, a/c worked and walking distance to beach. This said there are nicer friendlier, cheaper hotels nearby with WiFi so I’d definitely look around.

Good hotel

This is a value for money hotel. Rooms are good and price is less compared to the qualities of the rooms. There will be a language problem for non Tamilan people but other than that it's good. Good stay in hotel

You get what you pay for

This hotel is the epitome of an Indian budget hotel. Even though the room was clean, you get the feeling that things are not actually clean. The room was very basic but ok for a short stay.
The sheets on the bed seemed dirty and I requested another set. However, one of the sheets I got had some bugs on it and I got bitten. I didn't end up using that sheet and the rest was fine, although I did put my own sarong on top of the pillow. The bathroom was basic, cleanish, and with only cold water (fine with Chennai's heat). There were some small cockroaches roaming on the floor. The fan worked well.
What bothered me the most was that my room didn't have windows facing outside, just some holes facing the hallway. Because of that, it got really loud and i could hear everyone's television, coughs, and because it's India, the very loud morning bathroom routines. The worst was the smoking around my room as the smoke filtered into my room through the holes.
The person at the front desk is nice. There is no wifi in the hotel. Location is good.
Overall, a super basic room with many negative aspects, but you only pay INR 400, so you can't really complain.
