A Must-Stay if in Balestrand

We had a demi-suite in the original building with a nice balcony overlooking the fjord. I can't imagine staying in Balestrand and not staying here. This hotel really made our stay so special.
We loved the breakfasts - many foods to choose from and lovely views. Suggestions -- have warm, soft boiled eggs (instead of cold hard boiled eggs) and it would be nice to have a pot of tea (instead of having to wait to for refills by the servers) and different types of tea available.
The common areas were beautiful and felt very historic. There is a coffee/tea service in the evening - could start a little earlier.
The smorgasbord dinner was good - especially the crab legs -- but felt very crowded around the food area once the tour groups arrived. The main course options could be better for the price.

Classy old hotel

This is a wonderful old hotel with tons of charm. We stayed in the "new" wing. Not so new. Loved the spacious balcony and the bed was very comfortable. The shower pressure is good. Negatives. No fridge nor safe in the room. Bathroom lacks shelves. Toilet seat does not stay up for men or women. The breakfast and dinner buffets are nice. No omelet station. Just a premade omelet. No scrambled eggs. Lots of choices for my gluten free dinner. Loved the Reindeer meat one night. Plenty of choices. Beautiful town with great activities nearby

Horror

Absolutely horrible ! Rooms were not renovated from last century. Food is way below average. This is not 4 star hotel, it’s a max 2 star. In addition staff is extremely rude and unhelpful. Worst hotel experience in our life. Strongly not recommend.

We didn't get the booked room in the old wing

We had booked rooms in the old part and got confirmation on the stay. At the front desk we showed the confirmation, but they found out the room was not available anyway. We were offered rooms in the "Soviet block" behind the old building. Still, my credit card had been charged with the price of the room we originally booked. What was most disappointing was that both of the two in the reception could not speak a word in Norwegian, and not very good English either. In addition, we received an email after returning home where they wrote that the reason we had to change rooms was that we did not want rooms with carpets on the floor, which is not true at all. The reason we chose Kviknes hotel was just to get overnight in the old hotel.

Absolutely worth the stop in Balestrand

A stunning hotel, in serene surroundings! We stayed in the newer side, with a spacious room overlooking both the water and village. The room had both a bed and couch for indoor seating, as well as an outdoor balcony. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and both were excellent. If you’re doing the “Norway in a Nutshell” tour, you won’t be disappointed with an overnight stop here!
