Beautiful trail and massive rocks that will leave you speechless! Not too difficult to hike and well worth the drive!
Castle Rock is a great place to visit and live. It is the county seat of Douglas County and is just south of the Denver Metro Area and north of Colorado Springs. The key geological feature is "The Rock" which dominates the skyline and atop The Rock is "The Star". The starlighting ceremony is the weekend before Thanksgiving and it remains lit every night through winter until Presidents Day in February. The Rock can be seen from Interstate 25 as you are passing through the town. It is also visible from most locations around the town. The Rock park is open to hikers and the view from up top is spectacular. One can hike the moderately difficult trail from the front of the The Rock on the west or hike around the base and walk up the easy dirt service road on the east side. There are many open spaces in Colorado. The Town of Castle Rock is just about 50% open spaces which is open to the public and owned by Douglas County. If you love the out of doors then this is the place.
From the time that the original toll road was built between Nederland and Boulder right up to today, Castle Rock has been one of the principle landmarks in Boulder Canyon. The original dirt road swung south of the rock while today's road was dynamited north of it. You can still walk a section of the old dirt road. Castle Rock is a favorite with climbers and the chalk marks along its stony flanks bear witness to the many who have conquered its impressive heights.
Really nice view and great outlet stores
