Where to hire a car at Ljubljana Airport
There are eleven car hire companies with desks at Ljubljana Airport: Atet Budget, Europecar, Avis Dollar, Hertz, Avant, Sixt, Agio, ABC and Enterprise. All of the desks are inside the terminal, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Ljubljana Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
Luckily there is a petrol station just 5 minutes by car from Ljubljana Airport. Head northwest on Zgornji Brnik and turn right then left onto Route 14. Stay on Route 14 and take the 4th exit at the roundabout where the garage will be on the right hand side.
Driving around Ljubljana Airport
Ljubljana Airport is well connected to the region’s main road network. The E61 is the best road to take from the Airport to Ljubljana while the local Route 14 is the best option if coming from Kranj. The A1 cuts into Ljubljana from both the southwest and the northeast, while the A2 comes into Ljubljana from the north and also the southeast. Ljubljana is also well connected by motorway to other European cities. The E70 serves Zagreb in Croatia, the E57/E59 goes to Graz in Austria and the E61/E71 runs to Trieste in Italy.

Kranj is just 13 minutes by car from Ljubljana Airport. Take Route 104 for Zgornji Brnik then take the second exit at the next two roundabouts following signs for Kranj.
This Croatian beauty still boasts remnants from its days under the Ottoman Empire with Viennese twists to a very much Croatian city. Chic bars and restaurants line elegant streets to a backdrop of spectacular Mount Medvednica that looms over the north side of the city. Zagreb is less than two hours by car from Ljubljana Airport. Take Route 104 from the airport and merge with the A2/E61. Take exit 3 for Zagreb from the E70 and follow signs for the city centre.
Compact Ljubljana may be small but it packs a punch in terms of beauty and culture. Its beautiful old town is filled with bars and restaurants giving it the energy of a much bigger city. Its nightlife is as lively as any European city but has a wonderful Mediterranean flavour running through it. Visually, the remains of the Austro-Hungarian Empire have left a legacy of stunning architecture and mouth-watering cuisine. Film festivals, club nights and a world class art museum give Ljubljana the cultural edge while its surrounding lakes and mountains are a paradise for outdoor lovers.
It takes just 30 minutes to reach Ljubljana from the airport. Take Route 104 and merge onto the A2/E61 towards Ljubljana. Exit for the centre and continue on Route 8.
On street parking can be hard to find in Ljubljana but it is available. Parking is charged on weekdays from 8am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm and costs from €0.70 per hour with a maximum parking time of 2 hours. Outside these hours parking is free. There are also 24 hour car parks with a maximum cost of €30 per day. Ljubljana also has park and ride facilities for use with local buses. Some hotels in Ljubljana also offer free parking.
