Driving around Klagenfurt Airport
There are a lot of large, fast roads surrounding Klagenfurt Airport. The S37 and E66 motorways are just a short drive away. Traffic in Austria drives on the right. If you don't drive abroad very often, this will take a bit of getting used to. Make sure you're comfortable with your car before pulling out of the airport car park.
Getting to your destination
The capital of Carinthia makes an excellent base for exploring the Wörthersee. The city has a couple of claims to fame. Each year it hosts a huge German literature competition (The Ingeborg Bachmann Competition) and the Beach Volleyball Grand Slam Tournament.
It only takes five minutes to drive into the centre of Klagenfurt from the airport. Many hotels in Klagenfurt have car parks, perfect if you're staying for a night or more. There is limited on-street parking, and spaces in the city centre are pay and display from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 8am to 12 noon. You can park for up to three hours. Expect to pay about 60 cents (roughly 44p) for the first 90 minutes of parking in the city centre, and 60 cents for each subsequent half hour. Parking outside the inner city is about half the price. For longer term parking, you can expect to pay €1.70 to €3.50 (about £1.25 to £2.60) per hour in the city's car parks.
Millstatt am See

It takes about 55 minutes to drive to Millstatt am See from Klagenfurt Airport. Most accommodation in the town will have parking for guests.

It takes about an hour to drive to Gerlitzen from Klagenfurt Airport. There's a car park at the ski resort. If you're visiting in winter make sure your car rental company is able to provide you with tire chains.
