Budget
The historic Old Town, lively riverbank and open parks all help make Krakow a budget-friendly destination. A cappuccino starts from as little as ten Polish złotych (zł), and an inexpensive restaurant meal comes in from zł40. A beer costs zł15. A taxi trip starts from just zł4.
Getting around Krakow
The Old Town is easy to explore on foot, but a KrakowCard is useful for venturing further. Timed tickets are also available on board trams, at vending machines and at kiosks. The tram network has hundreds of stops across the city and large windows perfect for sightseeing. Hire bikes to make use of the dedicated trails, and consider taking a trip on the Krakow River Tram.
Day trips from Krakow
About an hour and a half away, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum is one of the most significant and sobering sites connected to World War II. On the way back, the Wieliczka Salt Mine is well worth a stop, with a vast chapel carved entirely from salt. Or head to the colourful village of Zalipie, where residents have decorated their homes with folk art designs since the early 20th century.
