Budget
Marrakech's souks, food markets and striking architecture cost nothing to wander through, making it an accessible city for those on a budget. A cappuccino starts from as little as ten Moroccan dirhams (MAD), an inexpensive restaurant meal costs around MAD31, and a short taxi ride is about MAD25.
Getting around Marrakech
The medina's narrow alleyways are for pedestrians only, so comfy shoes are essential. Yellow petit taxis (small taxis) are available for trips around the city – agree on a price in advance. Marrakech has a public bus network, though routes are limited and buses can get crowded. Hiring an electric scooter is a fun way to explore beyond the medina.
Day trips from Marrakech
Short on time? The Agafay stone desert, 45 minutes south of the city, offers a taste of the Sahara without the long journey – ride a camel across rocky dunes and stargaze over dinner in a Bedouin camp. Alternatively, the Atlas Mountains, an hour to the east, are home to the native Amazigh people. Hike through fragrant orchards before joining a traditional tea ceremony.
