Hotels in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai might be the most charming corner of Thailand: the temples and elephant sanctuaries provide tranquil seclusion in comparison to the busy bodies in Bangkok and the party animals on the islands. It’s cushioned by green mountains and fields on every side, and thus by many it is considered ‘The Rose of the North’. It’s easy to get to Chiang Mai by a domestic internal flight, or by using the public transport within Thailand. Chiang Mai’s International Airport is west of the city, close to the city hotels and accommodation in Hang Dong.

Chiang Mai City

The shops, bars, and backpacking district flourish in the centre of Chiang Mai, but don’t worry – there are practical family friendly hotels and relaxed inns too. This is also where you can find the main temples, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Chedi Luang. Look for a cheap hostel on Chang Klan Road if you want to be near the bars, clubs and night markets, on Tha Phae Road if you want to be near the best shops, and stay in the ‘confines’ of the canal walls if you’d like to be close to the temples and art galleries.

Hang Dong

Hang Dong is just below the city area of Chiang Mai, and spreads into the Doi Suthep National Park. In fact, if you choose to stay in one of the hotels toward the south of the park, you’ll be within tuk-tuk distance of the treks and palaces in Doi Suthep. Most of the hotels here are boutique beauties and 4 star spas, just right for a romantic break in the Thai countryside.

Saraphi is southeast of Chiang Mai city, and it’s a much calmer than the centre. The hotels, villas and B&B’s are great for quiet getaways whether you’re with your family or your better half, as you can still easily get into Chiang Mai.

San Sai

In a similar fashion to Saraphi, San Sai is a quieter part of Chiang Mai. However, there are still beautiful hotels and B&B’s to choose from here.
