You do not need your passport with you when you’re flying within the UK but some form of identification is required. There are printers in the check-in area of ShannonAirport, so there is no need to panic if you forget to print your boarding pass. If you have a smartphone you can store your boarding card electronically on your phone. Security can scan the e-barcode so you don’t need to worry about paper at all.
We recommend leaving plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Queues at security are longer at weekends and during school holidays, so it’s worth giving yourself extra time.
What to expect in Bristol
Once notable for its heavy industry, today Bristol is one of the UKs ‘greenest’ cities and is famed for its alternative ‘hippy’ culture, art collectives, community-run cafes and local music venues. It boasts beautiful outdoor spaces in which to enjoy running, walking, cycling or a family picnic. Bristol is also an artistic hub and a hive of creativity and entertainment. It is home to notorious graffiti artist Banksy and the wonderful studios of Aardman who make Wallace and Gromit. The upmarket harbour is the place to find museums and foodie havens while festivals and outdoor celebrations take place throughout the year celebrating everything from slapstick silent film and balloons to kites and music.
Bristol is not one of the UK’s most expensive cities. When eating out there is an excellent choice of budget friendly options including many vegetarian and vegan eateries where you can get dinner for two for under £20*. Accommodation suits every budget and includes hostels and budget hotels as well as luxury options and family run B&Bs. Located in southern England, Bristol is one of the warmest UK cities with mild winters, however there can be a lot of rain from November to February.
