Where to hire a car in Lanzarote airport
There are 8 different car hire companies to choose from in Lanzarote airport: Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Goldcar, Payless, Cicar, Auto Reisen and Cabrera Medina. You can find the car hire desks at the exit of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Petrol stations close to Lanzarote airport
The closest fuelling station is in Arrecife, which takes 10 minutes to reach by car. This might take you sometime during the peak of rush hour, as you have to head into the north of the town.
Factor this in if you know you have to return your car with a full tank of fuel. To reach the station from the airport, keep right when driving along the Aeropuerto road, follow the signs for Arrecife and continue on the LZ-2. You will come up to a junction, keep right on the LZ-2, and at the roundabout take the second exit onto Calle Rambla Medular. Take the second exit on the next roundabout. On the next roundabout, take the first exit and immediately turn left on Calle de Blas Cabrera Topham. Take a slightly right onto Calle Gral. García Escámez, and right again on Calle Fajardo. Turn left onto Calle Cienfuegos, right into Leon y Castillo and a slight right again on Calle Francos. Once you reach the crossroads, take a left onto Calle Hermanos Zorro, and the station will be on your right.
Driving around Lanzarote airport
The LZ-2 is the main road leading out of Lanzarote airport, leading onto the east (Arrecife) and west (Pocillos) of Lanzarote. It’s clearly marked out and easy to follow when exiting and arriving at the airport. To the right of the airport, there’s a small resort called Playa Honda where you can pick up groceries if you’re on a road trip.
Destinations to drive to from Lanzarote
Arrecife is about a 10 minute drive from the airport. The town is made up of many one way systems, and it’s not the easiest place to park either – research your route prior to visiting Arrecife. To reach Arrecife, follow the LZ-2 and continue until you reach the end of the road.
Costa Teguise is 14km away from the airport, but it’s still one of the most popular resorts on the island. It’s the next resort on from Arrecife, and it’s easy to reach by follow the LZ-2 out of the airport (eastbound), and merging left onto the Circunvalacion, then merging onto the LZ-3. Continue for 15km until you reach the roundabout, where you’ll take the third exit onto the LZ-18, and continue until you reach Teguise.
Puerto Calero is about a 20 minute drive from the airport, beyond Los Pocillos and Matagorda. Follow the same directions for Los Poccillos, but do not exit the LZ-40 – continue for 14km until you come to the roundabout. Take the first exit for the LZ504. Turn left onto the Camino del Plaza, and continue until you reach the resort.
Playa Blanca is about 40 minutes away from the airport, which deters many travellers from coming out so far. However, it’s worth the trip, and it’s not hard to reach. Follow the LZ-2 westbound towards Yaiza for 35km to come out onto Playa Blanca.
Los Pocillos and Matagorda
These two sister resorts are only 5 km away from the airport. Instead of following the LZ-2 signs to Arrecife, you’re going to follow the signs for Yaiza on the LZ-2, then take the first exit for Puerto del Carmen. Continue on the LZ-40 and take the exit for Matagorda. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the LZ504, which will take you down to Los Pocillos beach.
