The Heart of Erfurt Beats in OPERA Hostel — My New Home Away from Home
This place isn’t just a hostel — it’s a living, breathing soul.
It reminded me of the free-spirited magic of Burning Man and the raw authenticity of Sisyphos in Berlin — not through wild parties, but through the deep, organic, untamed warmth that fills every inch of it.
Every single detail at OPERA is crafted with love. It’s like someone asked, “What would a soul truly need to feel good?” — and then went ahead and fulfilled every single wish without missing a thing.
The interiors are a dream: each room is dedicated to a famous opera composer, wrapped in vintage style and a touch of bohemian spirit.
The lounge area is a sanctuary, where you can lose track of time reading, chatting, or simply being.
The kitchen — open 24/7 — feels like your own, always stocked with fantastic free coffee and tea, welcoming you like an old friend.
It’s better than most five-star hotels, because here luxury is not about money — it’s about soul.
Originally, I planned to stay for 2 nights.
I ended up staying 8 days, unable to leave this oasis of comfort and peace.
In fact, I made a major decision during my stay — I’m moving to Erfurt — and a big part of that decision is thanks to the warmth and magic that OPERA radiates like the very heart of the city.
And yet — the true treasure of OPERA Hostel is its people.
Florian, Nathalie, Yvonne, Eric, and Cosima — they are not just staff. They are the best reception team in the world, true artists of hospitality.
They don’t just check you in — they lift you up, make you feel seen, safe, and effortlessly comfortable, not only in the hostel but in Erfurt itself.
Their kindness, authenticity, and sense of humor transform an already beautiful place into something truly sacred.
If Sisyphos is the sleepless playground of Berlin, OPERA is its poetic little brother — a place where freedom and beauty slow down, stretch out, and invite you to stay a while.
Bless OPERA Hostel — long may it live.
I will come back, again and again.

A fine combination of budget friendly hostel and what could best be described as a chic boutique hotel (only difference is toilet and bath in the hallway)
Ten minutes walk to lovely city centre and a fine parking house fem minutes walk down the street (12,- euro for 24 hours).
Everything looked fine and clean, the staff is very friendly and this place deserves a warm recommendation.
