Very normal hostel experience??

I was initially very alarmed by the reviews seen here, but i had no issues at the hostel. Me and my friend stayed in a private room, our shower worked just fine, the beds were comparable to other hostels ive stayed in, and the receptionist was super kind and very helpful whenever we needed anything

Horrible night

The receptionist from Croatia was hammered and drinking outside with his friends, hardly could talk and he was very disrespectful to my wife, touching her shoulder familiar and she felt very embarrassed of that
The worse of all was , that when we were cooking inside, he smashed a glass ove hos forehead and broke it, caused lots of bleeding injuries, looking horrific, blood everywhere on his shirt, head and over all his hands. I had two 6 years old daughters with me and a wife and I luckily took them away of that scene of horror.
He was sitting then on the garden with his friend in blood around another half an hour...
The worse experience in Ireland in my 20 years of travelling and living in this beautiful country

Avoid it

The welcome was unpleasant from an old lady who behaved like Germaine from Monsters, Inc., and once again, I think Germaine is friendlier. Upon arriving in the room, we did not have an assigned bed, so we had to find available beds; how? Seeing if there were no belongings on the bed, so nothing was certain. The available beds mostly smelled bad. After staying two days and seeing some guests leave the room, we noticed that between two travelers, the sheets were not washed but just turned over in the opposite direction of the bed. Disgusting, avoid it or just pass through Killarney and sleep in another hostel in another city.

Just what I expected for a Hostel.

I read the reviews of the Railway Hostel and was really put off by them. Nearly didn't visit as a result. But I couldn't believe that a place could stay open with such awful reviews, so I went for the hell of it - I could always leave if it was that bad! I was pleasantly surprised. Perfect location, receptionists were polite and informative, general renovations didn't cause any issues, the dormitory was a dormitory with all the joys of shared living but my co occupants were all pleasant and sensitive to those around them. Ablutions and latrines were clean and the water was probably too hot! Killarney is a grand place to eat and there are loads of pubs. I went back at the end of my walk round the Kerry Way and had a very similar experience. Recommended. And I don't usually write reviews but felt the record needed to be more balanced.

Place to run!

I spent a night there with my partner, and it started with the person at the reception who was very unpleasant. When we saw the dirty state of the kitchen, we preferred to go eat in a pub rather than cook. We couldn't even take a shower because the bathroom looked more like a dirty pool than a bathroom, and there wasn't even paper in the toilet. It's hard to tell if our beds were really clean... And the next morning we realized that there was a flood in the middle of the dining room, we fled again to have breakfast elsewhere and leave as soon as possible from this place!!! Price of the bed far too high for lack of comfort and cleanliness. A ridiculous mini-parking that we could not use, even when arriving early. It's a zero and I'm never going back to that hostel.
