Iwakura

Kikuchi is home to Kikuchikeikoku Onsen Iwakura. Kikuchi Castle and Denraiji Temple are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Kikuchi Onsen and Yamaga Onsen. Kishapoppo and Hanaasobi Garden are also worth visiting.

A good inn in the middle of nowhere

We were comforted by the sound of the river babbling and the voices of deer, and the river mist as we entered our rooms and drank beer on the terrace. It happened to be the end of May, the firefly season, and there weren't many fireflies I wasn't expecting because it was not so hot and humid with light rain at times, but I was happy to see them past dusk until midnight. Also, the food was very good and the rice and rice for breakfast was very good.

The hideaway inn near Kikuchi Ravine had the best in-room open-air baths and meals

The Kikuchi Valley is located between the center of Kikuchi City and Mount Outer Ring of Aso. It was a very beautiful place with the valley flowing in from the outer mountain of Aso and the greenery of the surrounding forest. Near the Kikuchi Valley was a hidden inn called Iwakura.
　The rooms are all separated and (probably) all have open-air hot spring baths. The open-air bath is wonderful. The large rock bath faces the Kikuchi River, which is connected to the Kikuchi Valley, and has the clear stream and the surrounding greenery to itself.
　There was also a coffee room on the way to the guest room away from the main house, where we could enjoy coffee time right in front of the valley beauty.
　We had both dinner and breakfast in the private restaurant. It was also wonderful to see so many dishes that made me feel hospitable.

Comfortable Ryokan Stay by a River

My husband, I, and our Japanese friends enjoyed our one night staying here. My husband and I had a western style bed in our suite of rooms. The amenities were excellent. The bed was very comfortable. In the living room part of the suite, the sound of the river was a delight.
The onsen/tub was very easy to get in and out of, and we could see the river. We did not use the ryokan's communal onsen,
The hotel supplied very nice lounging wear.
Our group's dinner and breakfast was in a private dining room, with a view of the river. The weather was not suitable for dinner outside on the tables right next to the river.
We really enjoyed our stay at this ryokan.

部屋付きの露天風呂としては広く、すぐ下の川は透き通っており、お湯はトロリとして温度もちょうどよく、出たくないほど気持ちよくて何度も入りました。夕食朝食とも、料理の種類は多いのですが、量がちょうどよく美味しくいただきました。
自然の中にひっそり隠れている宿という感じで、となりの音や車の音もほとんど聞こえず、本当に心地よい宿でした。常連のお客さんが多いのが納得です。
また伺います。
