Hotels in Cancun

Throw some Mexican sunshine, spring breakers, epic pool parties and beach resorts into a cocktail shaker and you get something that looks a lot like Cancun. The city of Cancun sits on the north of the Yucatán Peninsula in southeastern Mexico, stretching out into the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Behind the city, there are epic Mayan ruins and rainforests that need to be explored, but there isn’t much accommodation in the jungle. There’s a wide variety of hotels here, due to the mecca Cancun has become for families, couples and happy-go-lucky travellers.

Zona Hotelera

If you’ve seen postcards of Cancun, you’ve probably seen Bahia de Mujeres. This is the northern bay at the top of the hotel zone, a district laden with beach resorts and hotels for every possible visitor (and every possible budget!). Whether you’re here with your family or your friends, the hotel zone was built for relaxing in. There are a few little shops and an aquarium for kids, but most of the hotels will cater to your every need.

Cancun City Centre

Those here to party flock to Yaxchilan Avenue every night for bars, clubs, and all kinds of debauchery, and you can stay here over night too. There are a few affordable hotels and hostels away from the big resorts on the beaches, and it’s well worth a stroll down Tulum Avenue in the day for some market shopping and authentic Mexican street food too.

Isla Mujeres

If you’re looking for even more of a beachy paradise, head to Isla Mujeres on the ferry. There are a few mid-range hotels as well as luxury hide-aways, which make a nice break from the hotel zone on the peninsula.
