 Cork Airport

Ireland's second busiest airport, Cork Airport handles the travel needs of roughly 2.5 million passengers each year. This bustling transport hub provides flights to over 60 domestic and international destinations. It's 8 km south of the colourful Cork city centre, close to must-see attractions such as Blarney Castle, and is one of three international airports in Ireland.

Background Information

With plans in place to build an airport in Cork starting in 1957, the airport finally opened its doors to the public in 1961 serving passengers of Aer Lingus and Cambrian Airways. The airport recently opened up a new terminal in 2006, with a host of new amenities and services for its multitude of passengers. Airlines currently operating out of Cork Airport include Aer Lingus, Jet2, Ryanair, and Wizz Air.

Getting To and From Cork Airport

There are several ground transportation options available, including rail, taxi, bus, or coach. Bus Eireann runs an Air Coach service to and from the Parnell Place Bus Station to Cork Airport. Numerous car rental companies are also represented in the Arrivals Concourse.

Airport Amenities

Cork Airport offers a range of shopping and dining facilities both before and after the security checkpoint. Shopping facilities are called "The Loop," and feature everything from luxury brands to local smoked salmon for sale. Further amenities include vending machines scattered throughout the terminal, a bank with a bureau de change service, and paid Internet access at numerous points. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. Cork's Food Market is a casual, family-friendly dining option, while those wanting a drink to calm their fear of flying can kill time at the Sports Bar or Victorian-styled Red Bar before their flight.
If you're in search of a more luxurious atmosphere, you can pay a visit to the Jack Lynch Lounge, which is open for frequent flyers and business class passengers. This lounge features free internet service, soft and comfortable seating, complimentary refreshments, and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. If your flight's been delayed, you have an early morning flight to catch, or you simply fancy a stay overnight near the airport, you can stay at the Cork International Airport Hotel or Park Inn by Radisson.
