Boise is a domestic airport in Ada County, Idaho. They run daily flights to and from 16 main US cities using 6 main airline providers. The airport is only a few miles south of Boise and Boise National Forest.
Where to hire a car in Boise Airport
There are a number of car hire rental companies available to use at Boise Airport. Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Dollar, Hertz, National and Thrifty are all located on the first floor of Boise Airport, and you can pick up your rental car outside of baggage claim.
Petrol stations close to Boise Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There’s a Chevron gas station just 2 minutes from the airport exit. Turn right when exiting the airport onto Airport Way, then take the second left, then turn left again. You’ll see the Chevron on your right. If you miss the turn for this gas station, there are several others on South Vista Way. Just continue until you see the turnings.
Driving around Boise Airport
It’s easy to reach Boise from the airport, as well as other towns using Interstate 84. There is a large junction as you leave the airport, however it is simple to navigate using Airport Way. When leaving Boise Airport, use the Express Park lane to leave the airport quickly. At the time of writing, there are planned road works on Interstate 84 outside of the airport. This may change the driving routes to and from Boise in the future.
Popular destinations to drive to from Boise Airport
Boise is the capital of and most densely populated city in Idaho. It’s also home to Boise State University.
It only takes 10 minutes to reach Boise. Turn left when leaving the airport onto Wright Way. When you come to the junction, turn right on South Orchard Street, and continue until you reach the right turn for West Fairview Avenue. Continue until you merge onto Highway 26. You can also reach the city using Interstate 84. There are plenty of different car parks here to utilize if you need to stop over, but for long term parking, check to see if your hotel has parking facilities.
Sawtooth National Forest Park
This National Park is just north of Boise and the airport, home to some magnificent scenery, treks and lodges. Check it out if you fancy taking great photos and capturing some of Idaho’s natural beauty whilst you’re here.
Take the Interstate 84 East to reach Sawtooth National Forest. Take exit 57 to go to Idaho City, then merge onto the ID 21. Continue on this road for 3 hours – or until you reach your accommodation in the park. You will have to purchase a ticket for your vehicle in the park.
Lucky Peak State Reservation Area
This reservation is popular with travellers due to the fantastic hiking, swimming and fishing grounds found around the Dam.
Take Interstate 84 eastbound when you leave the airport, then take exit 57, then move onto Idaho State Highway 21. Proceed along this road until you reach the lake area. There are parking facilities available around the park, but you will have to purchase an entry ticket for your vehicle.
