Boston Logan Airport is an international airport serving the city of Boston in Massachusetts. You can easily reach the airport from the city, as well as a few scenic spots on Massachusetts Bay. This is the largest airport in New England and one of the busiest airports in the US.
Where to hire a car in Boston Logan Airport
You can rent a wide variety of cars at Boston Logan Airport from a number of different providers. Advantage, Avis, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Enteprise, EZ Rent-a-car, Hertz, National, Payless and Thrifty all have outlets at the airport. The rental car centre is found outside of the Terminal at the west end of Airport way.
Petrol stations close to Boston Logan Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
You’re almost spoilt for choice with petrol stations around the airport. The closest, Gulf Express, is just three minutes from the entrance to the airport. The petrol station is off Service Road, which you can access via Airport Road. There is also a Shell and a Mobil of Massachusetts State highway 1A if you miss the turning for the Service Road.
Driving around Boston Logan Airport
The airport is set in an inlet in Massachusetts Bay, directly next to Boston. It’s close by to the city and for that reason the roads around Boston Airport can be extremely busy, especially during the Monday morning rush hour. The 1A Interstate makes it easy to exit the airport quickly to either Boston or Winthrop. When you exit the airport, you’ll find you need to exit onto Airport Way, which often means you may be doing a loop just to join onto the Interstate.
Popular destinations to drive to from Boston Logan Airport
The capital of Massachusetts is one of the oldest cities in America, founded in the 18th Century. The city is more famously known for Boston Red Sox and Harvard University.
On street parking is not recommended or permitted in some areas of Boston, so we suggest you use one of the Pay & Display car parks in the city centre.
Once you’re on Airport Way heading towards the 1A, take a slight right on the road. This route does include tolls. Keep right, following the signs for Boston. Take the first left to exit towards the Government Center. Turn left onto Market Street, then turn left again to be within the city centre.
Cambridge holds the prestigious ivy university, Harvard. This is the oldest University in the US and it’s highly regarded around the world. Cambridge itself is a leafier suburb, 10 minutes from Boston.
To get to Cambridge you’ll be following the Interstate 90 when you leave the airport. Use exit 20 to leave for Cambridge, and keep right to continue onto Cambridge Street. There are tolls to cross this bridge. Turn left on Putham Avenue, then turn left again for the centre of Cambridge. Once again, parking is restricted here so book a hotel with a car park attached.
This is the home of the Red Sox, one of America’s oldest baseball teams. If you’re heading there for a game make sure to head early to avoid the crowds – but expect traffic when leaving.
To get here take the 1A to leave the airport, then stick left and exit on Massachusetts 3 A towards Storrow Drive. Keep right, following the signs for Storrow Drive (West), then follow the directions for Fenway. There are car parks available here, but again, on street parking is restricted. If you’re attending a game, you may want to consider an alternative method of transport from the city centre.
