Where to hire a car at Stansted Airport
There are ten car hire companies with desks at Stansted Airport: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europecar, Firefly, Hertz, Inter Rent, National and Sixt. All of the desks are located inside the terminal, on the international arrivals concourse, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Stansted Airport

From Stansted Airport the nearest petrol station is just 4 minutes by car. Drive north from the airport towards Bassingbourne Road. Take the A120 exit at the first roundabout. Take the M11 signposted to Cambridge and then take the first exit at the roundabout. The garage will be on the left hand side.

Just one hour from Stansted Airport is the seaside town of Southend-on-Sea. Take the A120 from the airport and get on to the M11. From the M11, take the M25 towards Southend Arterial Road and take exit 29 into Southend-on-Sea.
This famous university town is a real beauty. Ancient colleges, lazy winding rivers, floral meadows and cobbled streets create a magical quality to Cambridge. Unchanged for centuries, the cosy historic pubs provide a place for long evening conversation while punting on the river is fun for all ages!
The historic town of Cambridge is only 35 minutes from Stansted Airport. Simply take the M11 from the A120 and follow the signs for Cambridge. Come off at exit 12 and continue on the A603 to the town centre.

London is just one hour from Stansted Airport by car however the journey will incur a toll due to the London congestion charging system. Take the A120 from Stansted Airport and follow it on to the M11. Continue on the M11 towards London then get on to the North Circular which is signposted for Central London. The A100 to Tower Hill signals the start of the congestion charging zone. Parking in London is difficult and expensive so think twice before driving in to central London. Restrictions typically apply between 8.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturdays. Many of London's roads operate 'Pay & Display' schemes, which are expensive for longer stays. Don't forget about the Congestion Charge which operate between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday, and costs £11.50! On street parking is metered with a maximum stay of 2 hours. Charges are £1.50 for 15 minutes or £4.80 for one hour. You can park free after 18.30 but spaces are link gold dust. There are plenty of car parks to choose from in London which provide a cheaper and longer stay option. Some hotels in London have car parking; usually this costs extra.
