Terminal Information – Departing
Dublin Airport can be reached by road in less than 20 minutes. At the airport there are car hire and taxi services available as well as a choice of local buses, for example the Airlink 747, that serve the nearby area, taking just 30 minutes to reach Dublin. Note that Dublin Airport has two terminals so be sure to check the correct one for departure.
Terminal Information – Arriving
You will be arriving at welcoming Vienna Airport, located 18 km from central Vienna. Getting there by road takes approximately 30 minutes. Alternatively the City Airport Train runs to the City Air Terminal at Wien Mitte station in central Vienna in just 16 minutes and costs €12* for a single fare. Vienna Airport Lines bus 1185 operates between the airport and the city centre in just 22 minutes, costing €8* for a single fare. There are other bus services available to other parts of Vienna and beyond. Taxis and car hire are also available from the airport.
Inside the airport there are cash and currency exchange points, banks, a huge range of cafes, restaurants, bars and over 70 shops from fashion boutiques to souvenir shops in which to while away the time before flying. There is an emergency medical service, conference and business services, baby changing facilities, car parking and even a hotel on site.
You will need your passport with you when you’re flying out-with the UK. There are printers in the check-in area of Dublin Airport, so there is no need to panic if you forget to print your boarding pass. If you have a smartphone you can store your boarding card electronically on your phone. Security can scan the e-barcode so you don’t need to worry about paper at all.
We recommend leaving plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Queues at security are longer at weekends and during school holidays, so it’s worth giving yourself extra time.
What to expect in Vienna
While Vienna's climate is generally mild and stable, winter’s can see some heavy snow. The chilliest months are from December to March while the sunniest and warmest are from June to early September. Temperatures can get stifling in July and August. Spring is a lovely time to visit Vienna with fewer tourists, cheaper flights, some fabulous festivals and less scorching weather. Whatever time of year you decide to visit you won’t be disappointed. Vienna is the home of opulent coffee houses, of Mozart and museums. Grand and historic, Vienna’s past as ‘once capital of the Austro Hungarian Empire’ in still visible in its elegant streets and classical architecture. Today there are festivals throughout the year, hips design shops, vibrant markets and modern clubs and bars, traditional balls and contemporary art that sits alongside the old masters.
Attractions are reasonably priced in Vienna. Eating and drinking also won’t break the bank with the price of coffee starting at €1. Dinner for one in a mid range restaurant can cost from €10 without wine while a pint is between €2.50 and €4. There is a good selection of accommodation in Vienna ranging from family hotels, small, cosy B&Bs, self catering apartments and backpacker hostels, to cater for every budget. Vienna is in Central European Time and one hour ahead of the UK.
