Terminal Information – Departing

Shannon Airport is 15 miles from Limerick and 56 miles from Galway but is can be reached using public transport, taxi or hire car. J J Kavanagh and Sons operate a bus service to Limerick. This takes 45 minutes and costs €5* for a single ticket. They also run services to Dublin which take 3 hours 30 minutes and cost €10* for a single fare. Taxis and car hire are available from the airport terminal.  

Inside Shannon Airport there are various facilities and services including cash machines, free WiFi, restaurants, cafes and snack bars, a gift shop, duty free shopping area, a bookshop, children’s nursery facilities, baby changing, airport parking, currency exchange desks and there is also one hotel on-site.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Manchester Airport is just 10 miles from the centre of Manchester with a journey time by road of just 30 minutes. Alternatively there are taxis, car hire and public transport available to get to the city centre. Manchester Airport has a rail, coach and bus network known as The Station which connects to all three terminals via the Skylink moving walkway. Trains operate to Manchester Airport from many destinations in northern England and the Midlands. There is a frequent service between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly Station which takes just 20 minutes and costs £4* for a single fare. Bus 43 is a 24 hour service to the city centre which takes 60 minutes and costs £2.90* for a single ticket. Taxis and car hire are also available.

Inside Manchester Airport there are a good selection of facilities and services including cash machines, baby changing facilities, currency exchange, free Wifi internet, plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants and snack bars in which to grab something to eat; duty free shops and places to buy fashions, accessories, travel essentials, books, newspapers and electronic items and there are hotels close to the site.

Practical Information

You do not need your passport with you when you’re flying within the UK however some form of identification is required. There are printers in the check-in area of Shannon Airport, so there is no need to panic if you forget to print your boarding pass. If you have a smartphone you can store your boarding card electronically on your phone. Security can scan the e-barcode so you don’t need to worry about paper at all.

We recommend leaving plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Queues at security are longer at weekends and during school holidays, so it’s worth giving yourself extra time.

What to expect in Manchester
