Where to hire a car at Aarhus Airport
There are five car hire companies with desks at Aarhus Airport: Budget, Avis, Hertz, Sixt and Europcar. All of the desks are inside the terminal, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Aarhus Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
Luckily there is a Q8 Petrol station located just 5 minutes by car from Aarhus Airport. Simply head east on the Lufthavnsvej and left onto Route 15 where the petrol station will be on the right hand side.
Driving around Aarhus Airport
Aarhus Airport is well connected to the region’s main roads. The E45 links to Randers and Aalborg in the north and to Vejle and the E20 to Nyborg in the south. The smaller Route 15 leads east to the coastal town of Grenaa and Ebeltoft while it also goes west all the way to Ringkobing.

This charming little town has one meandering cobblestone street that is amply lined with little shops and locally run cafes in which to while away the afternoon. There is an interesting glass museum with an unusual mirror room in which to get completely disorientated. It is also home to the world’s longest wooden ship.
It takes just 20 minutes to reach Ebelstoft from Aarhus Airport by car. Heading east on the Lufthavnsvej, follow signs for Route 15 then route 21. Follow Route 21 to Villadsgyde and then signs to Ebelstoft.
Not so much a place but rather a magical wonderland for kids stuffed with rides, rollercoasters (the largest in Europe) and water parks. Inside they will find farmland and Mexicoland, Vikingland, Africaland and Summerland. This place is fun – and it’s not just for kids!
Djurs Sommerland is just 20 minutes by car from Aarhus Airport. From the airport take the Stabrandvej road continuing on to Maarupvej. From here, get on to Sivestedvej and straight on to Korupskovvej, following signs to Djurs Sommerland.
This elegant, cosmopolitan city is brimming with restaurants and romantic places, cosy cafes theatres, cinemas and, given its young population, some very lively local pubs. Known as the ‘city of cafes’, the ‘city of smiles’ and ‘festival city’ with cultural, musical and artistic events all year round, Aarhus is one polished Danish gem.
It takes approximately 40 minutes to drive from Aarhus Airport to the city centre. Follow signs for Route 15 and follow this to the exit 19A for Lisbjerg and Route 180. Merge onto Route 505 following signs for Aarhus.
Parking in Aarhus is metered and charges apply from Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm. The cost is 12 DKR for the first hour, 17 DKR for the second and then 22 DKR for subsequent hours. Some hotels in Aarhus also offer free parking.
