How to check in

Online check-in opens 48 hours before flight departure, and closes 90 minutes before. If you check in online or via mobile you can drop your hold luggage at the bag drop desk. Passengers booked as a group, requiring medical assistance, or with an extra seat request must check in at the airport. Online check in also isn't available for departures from Xiamen, Bahrain, Colombo, Langkawi, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City. If you're checking in at the airport, it's recommended that you arrive no later than two hours before departure. Self service kiosks are available at Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport.


Advance seat reservation is available to first and business class passengers, Silver tier and higher members of the Marco Polo Club, Ruby tier and higher members of Oneworld, and customers with eligible fare types (Y, B, H, K, L, M, V, W, R, E, and T). You can pay extra for seats with extra legroom: these cost $50 short haul and $150 long haul. You can pay using your Asia Miles. Note that extra legroom seats are free for Silver tier and higher members of the Marco Polo Club and Ruby tier and higher members of Oneworld.

Booking fees

There are no booking fees, however you should definitely get in touch with the airline to cancel if if you can't make your flight: there's a £150 "no-show" fee on all classes apart from Economy Supersaver.

Service on board

Cathay Pacific have four classes of travel: economy, premium economy, business and first. Business class on Cathay Pacific includes lounge access before boarding, award-winning seats and a fine dining menu. Premium economy on Cathay Pacific includes more legroom than economy, an amenity kit with eyeshades and earplugs, and extra storage space. If you're wondering how to get an upgrade, you can use your Asia Miles. Your chances are likely to be higher if you're a Marco Polo or Oneworld frequent flyer. Economy class is good too, with high levels of service and comfortable seats with amenity pockets. As for in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi on Cathay Pacific flights costs USD $12.95 on flights shorter than six hours and $19.95 on longer flights. Alternatively you can pay $9.95 per hour. The in-flight entertainment system includes a range of movies and TV shows to enjoy while you're up in the air.
