Qatar Airways was founded in 1993, and since then it has grown to fly to over 140 international locations. They are headquartered in Doha, and quite literally fly across the globe to destinations in Africa, Central Asia, Europe, Far East, South Asia, Middle East, North America, South America and Oceania. In 2012, they added further locations such as Baghdad, Belgrade, St. Petersburg and Kiliminjaro to their extensive list of destinations.

Since the beginning, Qatar Airways have experienced a year on year growth rate of 30%, and have been awarded 5 stars from Skytrax. Skytrax have also recognized their economy cabin as one of the best in the world, with seat back TV screens and seats with a pitch of up to 34”. At the time of writing, Qatar Airways have ordered 10 of the new A380 Aircraft – the largest passenger jet in the world.

How to Check In

You can check in on mobile, online or at the airport. Qatar Airways have an app, in which you can check in, access your booking or change passenger details. You are also able to check in on their website, 36 hours to 90 minutes before departure. Qatar Airways recommend that you arrive at the airport no later than 3 hours to your flight, as check in closes an hour before departure for economy class passengers. Different regulations apply for those in Business and First Class. You are not able to check in online from destinations such as Basra, Baghdad and Tripoli – you can find the full list of destinations on the Qatar Airways website.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

On economy flights excluding Argentina, Canada, Brazil and the U.S, passengers are permitted to check in a bag weighing no more than 30kg, and being no bigger than 406cm in size. Hand baggage must be within 50cm x 37cm x 25cm, and weigh no more than 7kg. Passengers are also allowed to take on board one small, personal item. Different rules apply to different classes and destinations, so check online first. No individual piece of baggage can weigh more than 32kg on Qatar Airways, and extra luggage will be charged per kilo depending on the destination.


Seats are a little roomier with Qatar, as they have a seat pitch of 32-33”. Seat width varies from 17.5” to 18.9” in economy. All seats have an On Demand Entertainment system, but not all are equipped with laptop or AC power. Qatar Airways do not have Wi-Fi on all aircrafts at the time of writing.


There are no booking fees with Qatar.

Service on Board

As previously mentioned, there is currently only Wi-Fi on the Qatar Airlines B787, however all aircrafts have On Demand Entertainment Systems.
