Singapore Airlines flights

Singapore Airlines is Singapore’s flag carrier, but they also own SilkAir (a small domestic airline operating short haul flights in Singapore), and Tiger Airways, for domestic flights in Australia. Singapore Airlines currently fly to 62 destinations from their home base in Changi, with a strong presence in South East Asia and on the “Kangaroo Route”. If you’re doing an Oceania route, it’s likely you’ll come into contact with these guys.

The “Singapore Girl” is a key component in Singapore Airlines’ branding. “The girl” was first established in their 60’s advertising campaigns, and the slogan is often applied to Singapore Airlines flight attendants sporting the traditional "Sarong Kebaya" uniform. How to check in

Online and mobile check-in is available between 48 and 2 hours prior to departure. Passengers from selected destinations are able to print their own boarding pass when they check in online, or use a mobile boarding pass – regulations differ depending on your flight path. From London Heathrow, you are able to use the self check in kiosks 18 hours to 1 hour prior to your flight, as well as print off your bag tags and deposit them at the bag drop (please note, bag drop doesn’t open until 4 hours prior to departure). You can check in using the desks in Singapore Changi Airport 48 hours to 40 minutes prior to departure. Check in deadlines at the desk and at the kiosks change depending on your origin and destination, with some routes requiring you to check in up to 4 hours before departure.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

On flights other than those to the U.S.A and Brazil, economy passengers are permitted 30kg of luggage in the hold. Excess weight is charged per kilo, with prices changing depending on your destination. In the cabin, you are allowed one piece of luggage not exceeding 7kg or 115cm in dimensions. You are also permitted one small personal item, like a laptop, small camera bag or walking stick.

Seating

You are able to request seats for a fee between $20 and $100 US Dollars. Legroom varies on board with Singapore Airlines, with some aircraft having a seat pitch of 32-34”. Seat width can be between 17.5 and 19 inches in economy class.

Service on Board

In economy class, you will have your own 10.6” personal LCD screen to watch a variety of movies and TV shows on. Not all seats have laptop power, and at the time of writing selected aircraft do have Wi-Fi facilities. Meals are provided on all international long haul flights, with many specialist meal options available for religious, vegetarian and other dietary requirements – just request them at least 48 hours before your flight.

Punctuality

Aussie website Lifehacker judged Singapore Airlines as one of the most punctual airlines earlier this year, with 86.81% of flights departing on time.
