Vueling Airlines Flights

Vueling Airlines is a low-cost carrier based in Barcelona. The airline's first flight took place in 2004, from Barcelona to Ibiza. Vueling is known for its youthful attitude, and in 2009 and 2010 featured MTV-sponsored liveries. Today Vueling is Spain's largest airline, flying to more than 160 destinations across Europe, Africa and Asia. The airline has a second base at Rome Fiumicino airport in Italy, and has hubs in numerous Spanish airports including Alicante, Ibiza and Malaga. The airline operates two frequent flyer programs: Punto and Iberia Plus, both of which involve collecting points to exchange for exclusive offers. Why Fly With Vueling Airlines?

How To Check In

If you book an Optima or Excellence ticket, online check-in is available from the moment you book up until one hour before departure. Some airports (London Heathrow, Cardiff, Lyon and Prague) only allow online check in 24 hours before departure. Once you're checked in, you can either print out your boarding card, have it sent to your mobile as a text message, or check in using the app. With Click&Fly on the Optima and Economy Checked Baggage fares, you get emailed your boarding card upon confirmation of your booking. Passengers with additional needs (such as those flying with a baby or who require an extra seat) will need to check in at the airport desk.

You can pay extra to choose your seat when you book your flight. If you do this, you'll get your boarding card right away (saving you a bit of time closer to the day). There are four types of seat to choose from: priority (from €12.99), front rows (from €6.99), XL (from €12.99), and back rows (from €2.99). Vueling also make it easy to book a spare seat (just tick 'extra seat' when you search). You can choose your seat up to four hours before your flight's departure. Another option is the Excellence seat, in the front row, with no-one in the middle. Vueling aircraft have a similar seat pitch (the distance between your seat and the one in front) to most budget airlines, at 29 to 30 inches.

Booking Fees

Payment through PayPal or a credit card will incur a 2% transaction fee. There's no fee if you pay by debit card.

Service On Board

If you book the Excellence fare, a set menu is included in your ticket price. This includes a drink, a snack and a sandwich or hot meal. Everyone else can pay a small fee for food from the in-flight menu. The menu includes snacks such as Spanish charcuterie, as well as global brands like Lipton tea, Haribo sweets and KitKat biscuits. The in-flight magazine, Ling, includes editorials about Vueling destinations and makes for interesting reading.

Vueling is quite a punctual airline. According to OTP statistics, 81.3% of their flights arrived on time during 2015.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Hand luggage: Passengers can bring one bag on board weighing up to 10kg and measuring no more than 55x40x20cm. You can also bring a smaller bag, measuring 35x20x20cm, and a bag of airport shopping. These have to be stored under the seat in front of you, however, not in the overhead locker.

Hold luggage: Booking your checked baggage in advance can save you up to 40% on the airport price. The price for a checked bag starts at €13 if purchased online, or €35 at the airport. Second bags and third bags are more expensive, with prices starting at €40 (€70 if you wait until you reach the airport). Each passenger can bring up to three bags if they pay for them, weighing up to 23kg each. Every additional kilo over this allowance is charged at €12.
