This popular Indian airline started life in 2005 to offer low cost travel to passengers wanting to explore India. With its base in Delhi, IndiGo is India's largest airline as well as the country's largest low fare carrier. It is also the fastest growing low cost carrier in the world! 447 flights depart daily for 34 destinations around the globe. IndiGo was awarded the Skytrax World Airline Award for being the best low-cost airline in India and Central Asia at the World Airline Awards in 2012.

Flying to popular destinations such as Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and Chennai it also takes passengers to lesser known Indian locations such as Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Imphal and Agartala in the North-East. IndiGo also operates International flights to destinations such as Bangkok, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat and Singapore.

How to Check In

IndiGo offers online check-in from 48 hours up to 2 hours prior to scheduled departure. No baggage can be checked-in online, however. This must be done at the airport so allow additional time. Be warned that IndiGo does not allow any changes to or cancellations of bookings that have used online check-in. Boarding gates close 3 minutes before take-off. Airport check-in is also possible. Desks close 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure while the gate closes 15 minutes before.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Every passenger is entitled to one item of hand luggage plus a personal item such as a laptop bag, handbag or briefcase. All carry-on luggage must not exceed 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm or 7kg. Checked baggage allowance is 1 bag per traveller which must not exceed the maximum total dimension of 158 cm or 15 kg in weight for domestic flights, and 20kg for international flights. Excess baggage is charged at a flat rate of $4 per kg plus the additional charge for example an extra 5kg will cost $4 and then $8 on top of that.


Seats can be selected free of charge or they will be allocated automatically at the time of booking if none are requested.

Booking Fees

A non-refundable fee Rs 125 is charged for bookings made by credit or debit card. In addition to this, a fee of Rs. 200 will be applicable to all bookings made via a call centre or travel agent.

Service on Board

As a low cost carrier, IndiGo offers passengers the opportunity to purchase food and drink on board the flight. This includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Water is given for free of charge. IndiGo Plus members will receive complimentary food and drink as part of the service.


IndiGo’s On Time Performance is one of the best in India at 99.94%. It is also the airline with the least number of cancellations in India.
