There is one direct flight a day from Dublin to Chicago O’Hare Airport with Aer Lingus. After arriving in Chicago O’Hare, you can fly to any of the other airports in Chicago.

Terminal Information - Departing

All Aer Lingus flights depart from Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport.

To get to the US, you will have to go through US pre-clearance in Terminal 2. This is a second stage of security. If you want to buy anything or eat at Dublin airport, it’s recommended that you do so before passing through pre-clearance, as there’s a much wider variety here.

To make it a speedier process, make sure you have all liquids under 100ml and inside one of the airport-provided clear resealable plastic bags. Make sure you have your passport and boarding pass ready to present at pre-clearance as well. Occasionally, there are much longer queues to get through Terminal 2 as the flights to the US are often fully booked and busy. This is especially true during summer! On these occasions it’s really important you do arrive early at the airport.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Chicago O’Hare is one of the busiest airports in the world, but it’s well equipped to deal with the crowds. You will have to queue for passport control and baggage reclaim, which can be a lengthy process. Factor in up to an hour for border control during busier periods.

When moving from Chicago airport into Chicago, you have a few choices.

You could take a half hour taxi ride into Downtown, or a train and bus. Public transport will take you about 40 minutes to reach the city. It’s around $40 for a cab to downtown Chicago, and up to $30 to catch the Shuttle Bus. The L train is seen as the most favourable option, as it only takes 45 minutes and it costs less than $5.

Once arriving in Chicago, you can connect to any of the 7 other airports here: Chicago Merrill C Meigs, Chicago Gary Regional, Chicago Dupage County, Chicago Midway, Chicago O'Hare International, Chicago Rockford, or Chicago Pal-Waukee.
