Vietnam Airlines Flights

Vietnam Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Vietnam. Founded in 1956, the airline originally operated under the name Vietnam Civil Aviation. In 1989, the airline became state-owned. Today Vietnam Airlines flies to 53 destinations across 17 countries worldwide, not including its codeshare flights. Vietnam Airlines prides itself on its service, and have received a 4-star airline certification from Skytrax. Since 2010, Vietnam Airlines has been a member of SkyTeam. Vietnam Airlines offers three ticket classes: Economy Class, Premium Economy, and Business Class.

Vietnam Airlines does not offer flights from Ireland to Vietnam. If you want to fly with Vietnam Airlines, you will need to fly from either Gatwick or Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom.

How to Check In

Online check-in is available from 24 hours before your flight’s departure time until 2 hours before. You can also check in at the airport at no extra charge. Check-in desks usually open two and a half hours before international flights, such as those between Europe and Vietnam.


Legroom on Vietnam Airlines varies depending on your ticket class. Seats in Economy Class have a seat pitch (the distance between your seat and the seat in front) of 31-32 inches. Premium Economy seats have more legroom – on the Boeing 777 the seat pitch is 38 inches, 42 inches on the Boeing 787, and 38 inches on the Airbus A350. Business class seats provide the most comfort with seat pitches of up to 62 inches. You can choose your seat location when you check in online.

Vietnam Airlines do not charge additional booking fees.

Service On Board

Vietnam Airlines serve food onboard all of its flights, and passengers can choose from either Asian or international meals. Two meals are served during flights from Europe to Vietnam. If you’re hungry in between meals, you can request instant noodles at any time. On flights between Malaysia and Vietnam, all meals are halal. In-flight entertainment is included in all classes, so passengers can relax and watch a selection of Asian and international films.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Hand Luggage: Economy Passengers can bring one piece of hand luggage, weighing up to 7kg, on board. The maximum dimensions for hand luggage are 56cm x 36cm x 23cm. Premium Class and Business Class passengers are allowed to bring two pieces of hand luggage this size.

Checked Luggage: For flights from Europe to Vietnam, Economy passengers are entitled to 30 kg baggage. In Premium Economy and Business Class, passengers are entitled to 40 kg of baggage. Excess baggage is charged at a per kilo rate, with the rate varying depending on the number of zones that you’re flying through.
