Etihad is the flag carrier airline of the United Arab Emirates, established in 2003, and perhaps best known for their sponsorship of premier league team Manchester City. They’re the second largest airline in the United Arab Emirates, and they fly to 85 international destinations from their home base in Abu Dhabi. They operate over 1,000 passenger and cargo flights per week to destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.
They use different names for their classes on board the aircraft. First Class is “Diamond”, Business Class is “Pearl”, and Economy Class is “Coral”. As of December 2014, Etihad will be introducing new aircrafts with First Class Suites, Luxury Apartments, and Economy Smart Seats.
They have won 30 awards since 2003, amongst which lie the “Best Business Class Award” (World Travel Awards), and World’s “Best First Class” (Skytrax).
How to Check In
You can check in with Etihad online, on mobile or at the airport. Online check opens 24 hours before and closes 2 hours to the time of departure, whereas the Mobile Boarding Pass can only be used in selected cities (check out where on the website). You can have your Mobile Boarding Pass sent to your phone, up to 2 hours before the time of departure. You can also use the city check in if you’re in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, but check in deadlines and regulations change depending on the destination – always consult the website first.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
In economy class on international flights, excluding flights to and from the US, Brazil and Canada, passengers have a checked in baggage allowance of 30kg, and the bag must fit within the dimensions of 45cm x 72cm x 90cm. Cabin baggage must not exceed 10kg, or go over the dimensions of 40cm x 50cm x 21cm. Passengers are also allowed to take on board a small personal item, such as a laptop, small purse or walking stick. Extra weight is charged per kilogram, and changed depending on your origin and destination – more details can be found on their website.
Legroom varies across the cabin, with seat pitch changing from 31.5in to 33in depending on the aircraft. All seats have laptop power, 17.5” width and a TV set.

Service on Board
Meals are provided on all international flights, as well as an array of drinks and snacks. Etihad caters to a wide variety of specialist diets, including Kosher, low sodium and vegan options in their menus. You can request these up to 48 hours before your flight. All passengers have an On Demand Entertainment System, and some planes are now equipped with Wifi too.
